Hi David,

I am back in Toronto after a successful project in the Arctic, and I just wanted to thank you for your work on the instrument blanket you made. This blanket was extremely key to my success in this project. The material you chose was perfect for my purposes, and the modular construction of the blanket made it so easy to use. Again, thank you so much! If you are curious about what we were up to in the Arctic you can read a little about it here: http://www.netcare-project.ca/activities-blog/

All the best,

Dear David, I want to thank you for the magnificent job you did on my mid-century dining chairs. They are very valuable to me, and I waited over two years to renovate them, until my friends recommended your company. Now, they are the shining star of my dining room. I am no longer afraid to give valuable antiques to someone for quality restoration! Gratefully yours, Cindy.

Hi David,

I know we told you that we were pleased with our ''new'' furniture but I don't think you were truly convinced. So I want you to know we are absolutely over the moon with it. We keep going in and having a look and a sit on it. [...]

Hope we convinced you now David. It's great.

Hi David,

I wanted to send you a quick note to say thank you for making my deck cushions in a timely manner.  The fit is perfect and the colour is just what I expected.  One thing you should be aware of for future reference is that the fabric is very slippery!  [...] The workmanship and your professionalism are top notch, I just wish the fabric was more pleasing to the touch.

Take care,

George R., 05/05/2013

David,
Thank you very much. The chairs look fantastic. Great job and very professional.
We appreciate your very fast service and will call you again.
Thanks David.

Posted on April 3, 2012 on "Flik by Design" website : Classic Bergere broken and decaying turned into awesomeness......

I have been in business for some time now - have had many upholsterers and was really quite happy to find the one that I currently have. David of David's Upholstery has done work in Toronto for a couple years now - he studied in France working first on draperies, etc, then apprenticing learning the trade of upholstery for a total of 7 years. His knowledge of fabric, furniture is awesome... He is great at what he does and I thought that I should toot his horn ( so to speak).

Years ago I purchased these early gilded French bergere chairs - I was excited when our picker brought them to our store and sold them to me - fairly inexpensively I might add. They were rough, well made and really quite wonderful. The original burlap was underneath and for many rentals was revealed.

Now keep in mind David has a very warped sense of humour - as you can tell in this first picture - he took the chairs totally apart and photographed them....Sick I know. So....after seeing this pic...(which of course he knew would bother me....) the next pic was a little better (Chairs now being reglued and reinforced).

We had decided to do the 2 chairs for Mari-sol's room - you know every 4 year old needs to have French gilded chairs in her room. I had sourced a fuscia cowhide from a supplier in the USA - found the fabric for the back from Designers Guild and was ready to watch the transformation.

David - takes great pride in his work - the chairs were resprung (I think with the original springs) and redone on the bottom all of course by hand. Next step was to do the hide and decide if we wanted gold nailheads or a burnished version. I opted for gold to add some more sparkle and David hand nailed them in. Getting closer to finishing I had gone in to make sure I loved the back fabric - I love the fabric itself and was concerned it would not work - but alas I did..... The finished product was awesome - they came home today and are ready to go into Mari-sol's room - the feel of the cowhide and the contrast of the hide and colour against the aged patina on the wood is fantastic - the flower on the back from the fabric is equally as great..... Yet again another job well done........so keep in mind if you live in or out of the city and need a fantastic upholsterer....David is your man......

As I previously mentioned my MIL (mother-in-law) has just downsized and moved into a beautiful new condo. Unfortunately, not all of the furniture she previously had in her home was able to fit into her new space. Fortunately, (for me) I became the owner of a new (old) chair. The chair I acquired is most likely from the ‘60’s era; very Mad Men-ish with long legs, a curvaceous shape and body hugging fabric! I envisioned this chair in my home as an occasional chair that could be put to service in any room. The existing fabric was a light orange colour that had faded over the many years it sat in my MIL’s living room.

Yes, I love orange but I knew this chair needed reviving to boost its style quotient. My décor is on the contemporary side so I did not want this chair to look as though it was a ‘hand-me-down’ or an afterthought. The new upholstery had to be a fabric that could seamlessly fit into any room décor but still uphold the chair’s uniqueness. What I decided upon was cowhide. I purchased an entire hide that is the colour of coffee cream with hits of black and white. I stayed away from any hides that would have made the chair look like a ‘cowboy’ chair – not the look I was after.

I enlisted the services of David Upholstery www.davidupholstery.ca and was thrilled with the results. David took extra measures to add details that made the chair look fabulous. Only upon close inspection does one notice that the chair is upholstered in cowhide making it a very subtle detail. Nothing worse than something that yells, "look-at me, look-at me". I love my new chair with its edgier 1960’s charm and I’ve been having some fun moving it from room to room.
